Mia started her modelling career as a plus size model when she was 20 years old. She appeared in Seventeen magazine at the time. Many companies who represent Mia enjoy her rock n’ roll lifestyle and like to depict her in this way. Mia Tyler has appeared on Figure Magazine and in the United States Vogue. Her career is not that big but she is well known.

Kate Dillon used to be thin and had problems with anorexia. Once she beat anorexia she quickly gained a lot of weight going from a size 6 to a size 14. Her initial career was as a thin model with a signed contract for Elite NYC. This career didn’t do so well but after she gained weight and became a plus size she has been more successful and happier with herself. She has made it to the cover and been the spotlight of many editorial magazines such as Vogue magazine and MODE magazine. Many photographers that have taken a liking to her include Patrick Demarchelier, Albert Watson, Mario Testino, and Francesco Scavullo. Not only is Toccara Jones known as a plus size model but she is also a favourite television personality. She was one of the contestants in a television series titled, America’s Next Top Model. She tried hard to get into the mainstream as a plus size but she didn’t have much success landing any contracts with big agencies as a plus size. She has had many features with Bombshell magazine, Plus Model Magazine, Igigi Model of the Month and more. She has been spotted in television broadcasts including AM Northwest, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, and the Tyra Bank’s Show. Whilst not actually featuring in our list of 10 plus models, we simply had to give Tyra Banks a mention here. Tyra is probably one of the best known models in the USA and internationally now and this has been aided through the fact that she has now done a lot of series of America’s Next Top Model and rolled this format out to many other countries.
As Tyra retained some additional post baby weight, she elected to re-invent herself as plus sized. When you watch episodes of her subsequent shows, you will soon realise that she is tending to favour this genre of model.
