Biography
Eva Longoria, best known for her iconic role of Gabrielle Solis, the perpetually unsatisfied sexpot from the series Desperate Housewives has redefined people’s thinking with her cult show. This Latina starlet who started her career in 2000 with guest roles in television shows like Beverly Hills, 90210 got a new lease of life when Desperate Housewives came her way. It trickled down into her eventually working in movies and numerous magazine cover appearances and modeling assignments. In fact, Longoria is a spokeswoman for L'Oreal beauty products in 2005. She married Tony Parker, a guard for the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, on 6 July 2007 in a civil ceremony in Paris followed by a church service next day.
Born on Mar 15, 1975 as Eva Jacqueline Longoria in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mexican-American Catholic parents, Enrique Longoria, Jr. and Ella Eva Mireles, she had to endure being the only dark skinned among her three older sisters, Elizabeth Judina, Emily Jeannette, and Esmeralda Josephina. Her family’s source of income was their farmland passed on to them from past generations. Their financial status was not very high and they barely scrapped together. Longoria attended Marvin P. Baker Middle School and later Roy Miller High School, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at nearby Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She also won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998 and later upon entering a talent contest she found her dream destination, Los Angeles. Hereupon, she was spotted by a theatrical agent.
Career in Movies
She started her career with guest roles in television shows like Beverly Hills, 90210 and in General Hospital in 2000. This brief stint with part roles landed her first big break on the American soap opera The Young and the Restless, in which she played psychotic Isabella Braña Williams from 2001 to 2003. After leaving The Young and the Restless, she was seen on the now-cancelled Dick Wolf revival of Dragnet.
There was however some bad decisions too on her part with Eva lending her name to two disastrous productions, direct-to-video film titled Señorita Justice and a television film titled The Dead Will Tell.
But the best moment of her life came in 2004 when she got the role of adulteress Gabrielle Solis in the worldwide break-out ABC hit Desperate Housewives. Side by side, she co produced and starred in a poorly made direct to video movie, Carlita's Secret. Despite this set back Longoria got reason to cheer as she got nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy at Golden Globe awards and won the prestigious ALMA award and named entertainer of the year.
In 2006 she teamed up with Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland to star in the theatrical thriller, The Sentinel. She also made an appearance along side a Christina Milian, Christina Applegate, Ryan Seacrest, Maria Menounos, and Andy Dick in Jessica Simpson's music video "A Public Affair".
Longoria’s rising star status has also awarded her with various ad campaigns and magazine cover pages like Maxim, Magnum Ice-Cream, Bebe Sport and L’Oreal and Hanes, New York & Co. in fact she is the only actress to make it #1 in Maxim's Hottest Female Stars of 2005 and 2006 consecutively. Longoria recently won a People's Choice Award for Best TV Actress and Bambi award in Germany for best TV Actress.
After a bout of failed marriage and relationships, she settled down finally with San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker in 2007.
Eva endorsed Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination and co-hosted a town hall meeting with Clinton in Texas on March 3, just a day before that state's primary.
She has founded a charity which helps developmentally disabled children called Eva's Heroes. She is the national spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer. She signed shoes for the Spirit of Women Red Shoe Celebrity Auction. And also associated with Clothes Off Our Back Foundation, the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, the National Stroke Association, Project HOME and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Eva’s thinking of entering into films full time and ready to quit television once her contract with ABC gets over.
