Paoli Dam or Pauli Dam (Bengali: পাউলি দাম), is a popular bengali actress. The girl from Golf Road, Kolkata came into prominence with her 2009 Bengali film – Kaalbela, directed by notable Director Gautam Ghose. She studied at the Loreto School, Bowbazar and later at the Rajabazar Science College of the University of Calcutta, from where she took a postgraduate degree in chemistry.
Paoli Dam had come into the focus after the success of Kaalbela directed by Gautam Ghose. She won accolades for her performance, and often termed by the media as the next Smita Patil mainly because of her dusky look. She was selected for a role in Italo Spinelli’s film ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ after Shahana Goswami and Nandana Sen backed out of the project citing excess of nudity involved. Paoli was chosen from a long list of 28 probables, and reportedly said that she has no inhibitions in shedding clothes if a role demands it. Paoli made her debut with the Bengali film Agnipariksha in 2006 and since then has done quite a few films. She was also featured in much talked about Shob Charitro Kalponik, Bipasha Basu’s debut Bengali film directed by Rituparno Ghosh.
After screening a bevy of Indian beauties, Italian director Italo Spinelli has chosen the dusky Paoli to play a tribal woman — with a topless shot — in his forthcoming film Choli Ke Peechhe, based on a short story by Mahasweta Devi.
“I haven’t gone through the script in detail.There are a few bold scenes including nudity, but as an actor I have no inhibitions with anything at all. Besides, it’s an international film and international stars do such scenes often,” said Paoli,who has been finalised, though she hasn’t signed the contract yet.
