Now again The Preeti Jain rape case seems to have come back to Haunt Bollywood producer & director Madhur Bhandarkar. A Mumbai court today convicted Bhandarkar saying it will conduct an inquiry into rape charges by upcoming actress Preeti Jain in 2004. Means the court declined to drop rape charges against Bhandarkar. The filmmaker will now have to fight the case.
The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate while rejecting the adverse report by police said it would conduct an inquiry into the case and record Preeti’s statement on December 22. In July 2004, Preeti had lodged a police complaint alleging that Madhur had raped her several times between 1999 and 2004 under the pretext of marrying her and promised her roles as actress in his films. The court also observed that Madhur need not be arrested in the case.
“Madhur had promised to give me a lead role in his films. However, he didn’t offer me a lead role in any of his movies. At times when I refused, he raped me,” she said then. “The court’s order rejecting the report is a stamp on the genuineness of my case,” Jain told reporters outside the court.
